So I was in Youngstown a couple weeks ago visiting a friend and we went on a Target run (apparently um.. in Ohio.. you go on Target, not Walmart or Sheetz runs.. weird) but anyway, we came to the book section and at the very end of a row was Shel Silverstein’s many books of poetry. One of his poems is my favorite piece of work from anyone of all time, and after seeing those, I tried to look for the poem on my phone, but I couldn’t find it anywhere. I knew about how it went, but didn’t know the name of it or anything. So I grab the first book that I see, open up to a random page, and there it was. Hundreds of poems per book, probably 5 books of his there, and there it was. That was even weirder than the Target run.
This poem is everything to me. Such a simple way to say, be yourself. Don’t let that moment slip away because you’re hiding who you truly are. Don’t let that person go, don’t hide things, tell that person how much you love him or her, because that person might be keeping the same secret from you, and that person might just be all you need.
They searched for blue their whole life through… But how can you find something if you’re hiding it yourself?
Be yourself, let your true colors shine, or you may never find that person that can truly make you happy. Be yourself, because who knows what, or who, you’re missing out on.
