Demons by Imagine Dragons.
I cried SO hard when I first listened to the song. Because it is so beautiful, and has such meaning behind it. And now I just watched the music video to the song, and cried even harder, because it’s so incredibly accurate.
There’s not much to try and understand, there is no hidden meaning to the song; it just brings the phrase “Eyes are the window to the soul” to light, or in this song’s case, to dark: “When you feel my heat, look into my eyes, it’s where the demons hide.” Meaning, don’t be too comfortable with who you see here, there is so much pain behind these eyes that you aren’t even aware of.
And the video is so perfect, and is the first music video I’ve seen that has the band playing in it that actually makes use of the band playing in it, and isn’t just some cutaway scene every so often just to show the band members singing and playing instruments. It takes place at an Imagine Dragons concert, and they are playing the song for the crowd, and it gives close ups of random people in the audience and zooms into their eyes. We see a woman in front of a coffin. A man being abused by his father. A soldier carrying his friend out of combat. And we would know none of this by just looking at the people. However, we can see the pain behind their eyes.
The reason I say it is so accurate is, at a show, at least when I’m at a show, for the most part I’m just singing and jamming along. But there are some songs that mean so much to me, that I’m just standing there in tears because a song relates so much to my life, and my mind wanders off to other things, whether good times, or devastating times in my life. And hearing this song, that’s just what these people were doing: thinking about the demons they hold in their minds and their hearts, a beautiful song evoking a wholehearted emotion from deep within…
And I know. That when I see them play this song, in New York City, my city, where SO many memories have been made, I don’t think I’ll have any tears left to cry.
Cause there are so many demons behind these eyes.
“This is all for you, don’t wanna hide the truth.”
