I’ve basically been wanting to take you to the prom since right after my own prom. I was thinking, man, it would have been really nice to take her. We have been friends for just so long, and she was the only one that was my really good friend at St. Luke’s my first year there, when I knew NOBODY. And when you go to a new school, you can’t be shy and awkward and introverted, or you’ll get kicked around. Even in a Christian school! And I did. I did. Ha…
But you were there to save my life, you were there to treat me right when no one else did, you gave me a chance that no one else did. You gave me such hope… I owe you forever for that. For giving that little nerdy kid with the stupid hair and the glasses a shot at friendship. And all this time, seven whole years, we’ve remained so close, it’s unbelievable.
Not that this friendship is ending ANY time soon, but I think this would be a nice way to end your high school life, and a good start to both of our lives being out of high school for good. Of course, NOT the reason I want to take you. I want to take you because I love you so much and would do anything for you. We have been through so, SO much together. I have a connection with you that I don’t feel like I even have with anyone else, I feel like I could tell you absolutely ANYTHING, and other than my best friend, I can’t say that about anyone. You were one of the first ones I opened up to, and I think I was one of the first ones you opened up to too. And that just makes our friendship so, so special…
I wrote a song about you years and years ago. And to be honest, the reason why I’ve been so slow at texting you back tonight was because I was looking, desperately looking for that song on my computer, on my old computer, on my mom’s computer…Nothing. For the past three hours or so. That’s all I’ve been doing. Because it was and still is important to me. If I ever do find it, whether in a random folder from ages ago, or in the deep, young part of my mind from forever ago, I’ll let you know…
Basically, I want to take you. Really, really badly. You were the first girl I ever had a crush on. And why wouldn’t I? You’re pretty awesome, I think. 🙂 And you’d be such the perfect date.
I asked you the question a couple hours ago. And I have never in my life been so bold to ask someone to the prom or anything like that. I may have changed my appearance a bit, and I may know a lot more about myself now, but I’m still that young, shy kid you first saw sitting on the merry go round on the playground doing his homework alone, because I had nothing better to do.
Hearing no wouldn’t be the worst thing in the world. I’ve had this in mind for almost two years now, and have been wanting to ask you to your prom for quite some time now, but if you do decide to go with the boy you like instead, I’d completely understand. Because I can obviously relate.
So as I’ve told you, no pressure, babe. It’s your prom, so you make your night perfect and the way you want it. Just know I’ll love you no matter what.
